I wrote this article to demonstrate how international nonprofit Population Services International’s HIV and AIDS prevention and treatment programs are reaching the world’s most vulnerable populations around the world. This article required extensive research and featured case studies woven together with infographics and quotes from beneficiaries.

I researched and wrote this advocacy handbook for international nonprofit PATH to showcase practical examples of how champions for health policies are making real and lasting change in their communities. Stories from Africa and Asia are interspersed with 10 practical steps for advocates as they think about planning and implementing their own campaigns.

I wrote and edited articles for this edition of international nonprofit Population Services International’s magazine, which was distributed at the 2013 Women Deliver Conference in Malaysia. This edition featured thought pieces, previews, and features of PSI’s work focused on women and children.

I created this interactive slideshow in collaboration with designer Ryan Edmonson for international nonprofit PATH. The online experience combines human stories, data and social media interactivity to shine a light on an often overlooked health crisis.

As a staff member at PATH, I oversaw and co-wrote this policy report on the toll of diarrheal disease on children’s health in several developing countries. This data-driven report included landscape analyses and policy recommendations and has been used to educate health decision makers on the issue.

I served as a speechwriter for the President and other corporate leaders at PBS. These presentations included media engagements, keynote addresses, and award banquets and were focused on a wide range of issues – from the value of public media to arts and education. In March 2014, a speech that I co-wrote with a colleague trended nationally on Twitter during its delivery at SxSW.edu.

I created concepts and content for two successful semi-annual fundraising campaigns for environmental nonprofit, significantly exceeding fundraising goals over the course of each campaign.

I created this website along with designer Rachel Stikeleather at Creative Suitcase for a Malawian NGO focused on public education through media. I also initiated and implemented the organization’s first individual donor campaign.

Working with Quirk Communications, I created a set of online reports and videos for the Critical PATH for Tuberculosis (CPTR), a cutting edge biomedical organization focused on new drug development to treat TB around the world.

In 2007, under the direction of Casals & Associates, I created this governmental organization’s first communications strategy. The document, which was based on extensive research and input from stakeholders, provided a strategic guide and a system for monitoring and evaluation for public education staff. The plan is still guiding the organization’s activities today.

I researched and created a series of case studies for international nonprofit PATH to showcase the organization’s successful advocacy campaigns around the world while providing practical info for new and seasoned health advocates. Intended to get down to the brass tacks of health advocacy, this series provides “insider” information on each campaign, as well as lessons learned along the way.

I wrote this brochure for international nonprofit PATH to help advocacy groups and donors understand the range of the organization’s advocacy capacity and services. The brochure includes testimonials and stories from the field as well as a menu of advocacy capacity building and training services.  

As part of a dynamic team at PATH, I helped create an advocacy effort focused on raising awareness and funding for the prevention and treatment of diarrheal disease, a leading worldwide killer of children. Our communication methods combined both serious policy analysis and advocacy with a bit of humor intended to interest and engage newcomers to the “movement.” This invitation was for a standing-room-only cocktail event at a global health conference that included presentations by experts and a roundtable dialogue on the issue.

As a staff member for PATH, I co-founded an advocacy coalition of 15+ health, environmental and water groups to join together to advocate to the US government and donors for stronger funding and legislation for developing country health issues. This group has played an important role in passing new legislation and bringing together advocacy groups to speak to leaders with one voice.

I always try to balance out my workload with high-impact pro bono work. I directed communications efforts for this annual fundraiser for a local Colorado organization called the Alliance Against Domestic Abuse. This included creating press releases, writing magazine articles and implementing fundraising efforts for an event that exceeded participant and fundraising goals.
